Lucas McCarren, MS, MT-BC, L-CAT, Nordoff Robbins Music Therapist
What is Music Therapy?

Music Therapy is the clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional who has completed an approved music therapy program.

AMTA, 1998-2021

There is no need to have any musical skills or knowledge to benefit from music therapy. While it is important for the music therapist to be able to navigate instruments, a client does not need to play any instruments unless they choose to. Music therapy can provide a new means of communication and outlet for expression for anyone. This can be done through active listening to music, recreating preferred music, song writing, and musical improvisations. There are many ways for individuals to engage in unique creative ways.

ABOUT

ABOUT ME

Welcome to McCarren Music Therapy. Music can be a powerful and effective tool in assisting people in relating with others, learning about themselves, and creating new possibilities. Whether it is through rhythmic play, creating a melody, musical recording, or just listening to music there are endless possibilities that can be achieved through music therapy.

I am a board-certified music therapist in addition to a licensed creative arts therapist in the state of New York. I completed both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in music therapy at Molloy College in Rockville Centre NY. During my graduate studies I completed the Nordoff Robbins level one training. This training focuses on a music centered approach to the clinical work. There is a heavy focus on musical skills in this training as well as the ability to improvise music to meet an individual’s needs. I practice with a humanistic mindset, always following your lead. Music therapy can assist in guiding clients, assisting them to hone the skills they already have in order to reach their developmental potential. I would be happy to discuss any questions you have regarding music therapy. Please feel free to reach out.
